If you’re in a hurry, check out our Editor's Pick, Roborock S5.

Growing up, how often did you wish you could have robots do your chores while you went outside to play?

Flash forward to your life as an adult, How often have you wished the exact same thing?

The desire to have someone or something, handle chores has been around for thousands of years. But paying someone to come in and vacuum the house for you probably isn’t the best use of your time and money.

Thankfully, that doesn’t mean you need to vacuum the floor yourself. With the aid of a smart robot vacuum, your home floors will be as clean as ever.

All while you kick back and binge the latest show on Netflix.

But with so many smart robot vacuums out there, which is worth your money investment and even right for where you live? Here are our favorite eight smart robot vacuums for every budget.

Things to Consider

1. Digital Assistant

Digital assistants Amazon Alexa and Google Home are the two dominant digital assistants on the market. You’ll find a few devices for Apple HomeKit and even Microsoft Cortana, but for the most part, your best bet is to go with Amazon or Google.

Some of the other smart devices, like thermostats and video doorbells, are owned by either Amazon or Google, so finding a third party device is sometimes a bit challenging (when the device is owned by either Google or Amazon there sometimes is compatibility issues).

With the smart robots that isn’t as much of an issue. At least currently while brands like Roomba are independently owned and operated (although with how quickly Amazon and Google are buying companies up who knows how long that will last).

Chances are if you find a smart robot vacuum you like it will work with your digital assistant, but you still should double-check.

2. Self Cleaning

Even with a smart robot vacuum, if you have to get up and empty the dust container is it saving you that much effort? Yes, of course, it is, but wouldn’t it be nice to have the robot empty its own dustpan?

There are some robot vacuums that do provide this feature.

This makes it almost completely self-reliant. It’s also a great option if you have kids or pets and need to run the robot frequently.

Chances are you’ll pay more for this kind of feature, but if you want the fully controllable robot vacuum experience, this is a must-have feature.

3. Does It Do More Than Vacuum?

Some of the devices don’t just vacuum but mop as well. After all, the device is going to go from carpet to tile or wood at different points within your home. It would be nice if you had a device that could clean the hard surfaces, wouldn’t it?

While you will need to clean the harder dirt stains, for general cleaning, this is a nice design feature to consider.

4. Price

You are, after all, dealing with not only a vacuum but a robot that learns from its interactions around your house. It’s basically mapping out your home environment.

With this kind of technology, you’re not going to just pick up a quality robot vacuum for a few dollars. You’re going to spend some money on it.

The basic smart robot vacuums will cost a few hundred bucks. Thankfully, these “basic” designs are still exceptional and can do much of what you’re looking for. Just keep in mind that some of these smart robots can push close to a thousand bucks.

By going through these different vacuums just make sure to check off the features that look good to you and which you would realistically use. Chances are you’ll find something that fits exactly the kind of vacuum you’re looking for.

Editor’s Choice

Each of the smart robot vacuums we cover here is a great device.

There’s a wide price range so it’s possible to afford some automation cleaning technology no matter what budget you’re on.

However, with that said, we decided to give the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner our Editor’s Choice.

The Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner has more features than most of the other devices on the market.

Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner
It is able to move over door barriers and yet detect the decline behind it, so it will not fall off of steps. It has the best air filter of any of the vacuums on the list and it removes the smallest allergens.

On top of the excellent vacuum features built into the device, it also has a mop option as well. That basically put it over the top for us. While it will not remove tough to clean stains, if you program it to mop your floors a few times a week you’ll maintain clean floors without ever needing to do it yourself.

Probably the only downside with the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner is that it currently does not have Google Assistant support.

However, we believe this will be changed in the not too distant future. As the device does connect to your home’s Wi-Fi it is able to receive automatic firmware updates from the manufacturer. As the Google Assistant connectivity is a software update and not a hardware update you can expect this to come, even after you purchase it (the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner does have Amazon Alexa support, so integrating Google support will not be all that difficult).

Some of our favorite features on the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner include:

  • The mopping option is one few vacuums have
  • The app is an excellently designed feature that works on both Android and iOS
  • Removes 99.2 percent of all allergens found in your home down to 0.3 microns (the next smallest of any of the vacuums on the list is 10 microns in size)
  • Able to move over small barriers in the floor of up to 2cm, which is great if you have a small lip for French doors and you want the vacuum to move over it into the next room

1. Neato Botvac D3 Connected Laser Guided Robot Vacuum

Neato Botvac D3 Connected Laser Guided Robot Vacuum ListUnlike the other robot vacuums on the market that are basically large hockey pucks, this one has a flat front end (so you can see the front end much better).

It looks like a futuristic vacuum that had the top cut off and is now only the base.
It has a sleek design and comes in black, gray, and white (the gunmetal gray is pretty sleek, in our opinion).

The Neato Botvac D3 Connected Laser Guided Robot Vacuum, as the title suggests, uses a laser to navigate around your home. This allows it to clean in straight lines instead of randomly bumping around the place.

The flat design of the Neato allows it to easily work into corners as well, which is something some circular robot vacuums struggle with.

The vacuum has a 60-minute battery life, which is enough for any size floor. It will automatically return to its docking station and charge up.

Plus, even if the battery starts to fail in the middle of a cleaning session it won’t just die in the middle, forcing you to track it down. It will head back to the dock and then, when ready, return to where it left off.

The Neato Botvac D3 Connected Laser Guided Robot Vacuum has a programmable app that works on both iOS and Android. There is even a smartwatch app, giving you control over the device from your wrist.

You can control the vacuum with your Google Home and Amazon Alexa digital assistants, so if you find you need to vacuum your home, even when not scheduled, you can voice command the robot.

Some of the main features of the Neato Botvac D3 Connected Laser Guided Robot Vacuum include:

  • Works with both Google Home and Amazon Alexa
  • Front face allows it to easily work into corners
  • Laser guided helps improve its ability to vacuum in straight lines
  • The app works in both iOS and Android
  • Auto docking and charging when the battery is drained
  • Works on all floor types
  • 60-minute battery life

2. ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Robotic Vacuum CleanerThe ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner gives you the familiar hockey puck design, which is seamless.
It also has a 100-minute battery life, which is more than enough to get the job done.

The vacuum’s app works on both Android and iOS, allowing you to schedule the cleaning, track the cleaning process, look up the battery life and adjust between three different cleaning modes.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner uses an anti-collision and drop sensor. This way, it won’t fall off the stairs or bump into objects along the way.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner has an excellent air filter design which can help improve the air quality in your house. Upon purchasing the vacuum you receive a secondary filter as well.

The ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner is best used on tile or hardwood flooring. It does not work well on thicker carpeting. Additionally, if you have a number of rugs with varying thickness, the manufacturer recommends you do not buy this.

Despite the ability to program and control the vacuum with your phone, it does not have digital assistant support.

Some features of the ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner to consider include:

  • Anti-collision and drop detection
  • Excellent air filter (and comes with a second filter)
  • Control through Android or iOS app
  • 100-minute battery life
  • Multiple cleaning modes (auto, spot, edge, single room)
  • One of the least expensive robot vacuums on the market

3. eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C Wi-Fi Upgraded

eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C Wi-Fi UpgradedThe eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C has a sleek design and looks great while it cleans your home.

It comes with a smartphone app that works on both your Android and iOS devices. You can fully program the vacuum cleaner using either a control mode or set cleaning schedules. Plus, there is a “Find My Robot” feature if it has not returned to your dock, become stuck or is not returning to the dock.

The eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C also is digital assistant enabled and works with both Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

You can set the vacuuming zones, so if you have kids playing in one area and there are toys everywhere, or even if you’re putting together a puzzle on the floor, you can have the vacuum not clean a certain area of the room. This is done by using the provided boundary strips. These strips are laid down on the floor and the device will not run over it or approach the area.

The vacuum is just 2.85 inches in height, allowing it to slip down under just about any chair or another device. It has powerful suction as well, as this version comes with an upgraded 1500Pa suction power.

The eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C has a 100-minute battery life and is quiet. According to the manufacturer, it runs about as loud as a microwave.

The vacuum has drop-sensing technology so it will not fall off stairs. It is also good with hard floors up to medium-pile carpets.

So as long as you don’t have a heavy shag, this is a great option to go with (and realistically, heavy shag is not a great option for most robot vacuums due to the close proximity of the vacuum head to the floor).

Some of the features on the eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C to consider include:

  • Works with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant
  • Comes with area strips that allow you to block access to certain areas of the room
  • Fully programmable vacuum cleaner

6. Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction

Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop CleanerIf you’re looking for a super powerful vacuum that will completely transform your cleaning experience around the house, you’ll be hard pressed to find anything better than the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction.

This robot has just about everything you might want. First, you can pick it up in a great looking white, black or rose gold (which is just white with rose gold accents).

The vacuum can move over items lower than 2cm in size and can avoid falling off steps, bumping into furniture or becoming stuck. If it isn’t able to move under an object it won’t go under it, to begin with. This means if you have a barrier between rooms (such as where French doors might close) the vacuum can move over it without a problem.

The Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction uses one of the best apps on the market that works on both Android and iOS. With the app, you can create cleaning zones. Once the device has mapped out your home (the first few cycles will take longer as the robot works to create an internal map of your floor), you can tell it not to clean certain areas from the app. This way, you don’t need to lay down barriers.

The Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction uses 2000Pa suction, which is one of the most powerful vacuums you’ll find on a robot. It also features a number of cleaning modes, such as carpet, balanced, turbo, and Max mode. This way, if you have just standard dirt or more extreme dog hair, you can tell this device to handle it.

The battery on the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction is also top of the line, giving you a charge of up to 150 minutes of constant working.

On top of it all, the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction has a mopping feature. It is recommended to mop your floor every other day or so to prevent excessive build-up (it isn’t going to clean heavy duty stains, but for general mopping it is excellent).

It is recommended to not use the robot vacuum on dark and shag carpeting. It is difficult for the device to map out the flooring on dark carpeting, and the shag will become stuck.

The filter used within the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction is one of the best on the market, as it removes 99.2% of all dust allergens, down to 0.3 microns in size. The filter is also washable.

The one downside to the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction is while it works with Amazon Alexa, it does not currently have voice support for Google Assistant (although as a newer entry into the world of robot vacuums this will likely change with firmware updates in the future).

Some of the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner, 2000Pa Super Power Suction features to consider include:

  • Capable of climbing over 2cm barriers
  • Mopping feature
  • 2000Pa suction

7. LG HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Robotic Vacuum

LG HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Robotic VacuumThe LG HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Robotic Vacuum has a rather unique design in that it uses a dual-eye camera configuration. It uses the cameras along with other mapping technology to create an internal design of your home. This allows it to not only vacuum your current home but to move around new objects and moved furniture in real time.

The app’s cleaning diary allows the LG HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Robotic Vacuum to tell you what areas of the house have been cleaned.

The LG HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Robotic Vacuum uses longer side brushes. This helps clean corners and the sides of walls more easily than most other vacuum models.

There are seven different cleaning modes available within the app. This way, depending on your cleaning needs you can adjust accordingly.

The runtime on the LG HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Robotic Vacuum is around 100 minutes (when cleaning a wood floor). The runtime is reduced (not only on this but on other vacuums) when moving over the carpet as it takes additional torque to propel the device.

The vacuum does work with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, so you can control the LG HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Robotic Vacuum via voice command when accessing the application isn’t an option (or just requires an additional step).

Some of the features of the LG HOM-BOT Wi-Fi Enabled Robotic Vacuum to consider include:

  • Works with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa
  • Dual-camera design to help improve navigation throughout your home
  • 100-minute battery life

Conclusion

There are a number of great smart robot vacuums out there. You really can’t go wrong with any of these.

Ultimately it may come down to how much you want to pay for a vacuum cleaner. When looking at all of the vacuums, we had to give the editor’s pick to the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner. We really didn’t see any other device that could compete with it for the price.

While we do wish the Roborock S5 Robotic Vacuum and Mop Cleaner worked with Google Assistant, we have a feeling this feature will come sooner rather than later with a firmware update (so you won’t have to buy a second one, this function will simply be installed through its Wi-Fi connection).

But which of these vacuums stood out to you? Is there a feature that’s more important to you than others? Do you want something that works with pets, or maybe does well on varying carpets? Perhaps picking up more allergens is critical to you.

Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear what you think (and how any current robot vacuums are working out).
